STILL LIFE RENDER

Render

Software: Renderman, Maya, Quixel Suite, Photoshop & Illustrator

For this render, we were tasked with replicating a photo of objects. I chose a variety of objects that would challenge my understanding and fundamentals of 3D modelling. Considering this was my first 3D modelling task, I wanted to test both my organic/hard surface modelling as well as texturing. Each object was dissected into different elements, and modelled separately to simply the design process. For instance, the cover of the book was modelled first, then the pages, followed by the textures. The textures that contained imagery of colour were created through photoshop using a mixture of photography, hand paint and online sources. Whereas the transparent or reflective materials, such as glass and metal were created using Pixar’s render engine.

The final scene was lit using an image based lighting, and was rendered using Renderman. With the calculative technology of ray tracing, a realistic look was achieved to mirror that of the still life photo.
